Research By Medicare National Indicates That Boomers Are Going Online To Look For Help With Their Medicare Options

December 8, 2009 -- For years, if you wanted to buy a Medicare Supplement policy, you didn't have much choice, except to have an agent come to your home and explain your options. "But in general" according to Jackson, "Baby Boomers don't want to be bothered by the traditional sales process for getting Medicare Supplement Insurance." Most Boomers are tech savvy and they want to access their Medicare options online.

"Due mainly to the complexity of Medicare," reports Jackson, "Companies have been slow to allow Medicare beneficiaries to look for and compare options online." That however is no longer acceptable as Boomers in particular "demand" that they be able to investigate and compare their Medicare options online.

Mr. Jackson has found that "One of the most difficult aspects of offering Medicare choices online is that Medicare has become increasingly complex."

Until a few years ago, the choices for Medicare related insurance were fairly simple. When a person qualified for Medicare, they either used Medicare as their primary health insurance plan, or they bought a Medicare Supplement policy (also known as Medigap) to pay for expenses that Medicare did not cover. With the introduction of the government program, often called "Medicare Advantage" (such as HMO's & PPO's) as well as Prescription Drug Plans, insurance choices often became extremely complicated, and more and more people became utterly confused.

According to Jackson, "Many people still need a phone consultation to sort through all of the options and determine what is in their best interest. But that often presents a unique problem. If you will out a request for a quote online, your name is often sold to 10 different agents as a lead. You get bombarded with calls and the whole process becomes even more confusing."

Thats why it is important to find an online brokerage that will work with you directly and not sell or rent your information to others.

Medicare National is committed to helping people find out about their Medicare options with as little hassle as possible.
