S 2730 COBRA EXTENTION Sponsor List Grows

The COBRA Subsidy Extension and Enhancement Act of 2009, Sponsored by Sen. Sherrod Brown [D-OH]

This bill has lingered in the HELP committee since it was read twice and referred there on November 4. I told you about the announcement of support by Senator Harkin, in his written statement of Dec 1. He is the Chairman of the HELP Committee. (Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions)

This particular bill would UP the government participation in the premium to a new amount of 75%. It remains to be seen if that will survive the Congress of the whole . It also extends the Subsidy to 15 months total, from 9.

Although he clearly states it is a temporary solution, he has taken the step of calling for it’s immediate passage because on December 1, many families relying on the subsidy began to face premiums they can’t afford. Americans simply cannot replace this coverage and cannot pay the premium without employment (JOBS). After his support, others signed on, including Senator Christopher Dodd. There are now 15 co-sponsors, on record, as of Published 12/3. The 2 new Co-sponsors are:

Sen Schumer, Charles E. [NY] - 12/3/2009

Sen Merkley, Jeff [OR] - 12/3/2009

THANK YOU Senators! Let's Keep it Moving, or you will have to write an amendment to the title, Let's don't wait for an "...Act of 2010", people are losing their coverage now! Again, we thank the supporting members!

We need more, but it is growing!

KEEP THOSE PHONE CALLS AND E-MAILS GOING!
