Choosing the Right Car Insurance DeductibleEvery state in the US requires you to have car insurance in order to legally have a car. This is called "demonstrating financial responsibility." As everyone who has looked for car insurance knows, however, there are many different options available. One of the ways in which car insurance policies vary is the amount of your deductible. The deductible is the amount that you must pay, per claim, before your insurance kicks in. So for example if your deductible is $500 and you get in an accident and cause $3,000 worth of damage, you'll have to pay $500 and then your insurance company will pay the remaining $2,500. When choosing a deductible there are a few things to consider: A lower deductible means a higher monthly cost - It would be great if everyone could get a $100 deductible for a low price, but that isn't the case. Such a low deductible would require a very high monthly payment. Compare that with a high deductible, such as $1,000, which would probably be very cheap per month. It is important to do the math and figure out which price point and deductible is best for you. Deductibles are per claim - Each time you are in an accident and file a claim, you are responsible for your deductible. So if your deductible is $1,000 but you get into 3 accidents, you will have to pay up to $3,000 total. Take into account this worst case scenario when choosing an insurance. Car models affect available deductibles - An old classic car may have a different deductible requirement than a new luxury car with all the newest safety features. Always make sure to factor in everything and don't just choose the policy with the lowest monthly cost. Please click on this link to learn more about auto insurance.
