Aetna Medicare Supplement Plans

Aetna Medicare offers those who qualify for Medicare a variety of ways to meet your health-care coverage needs. Prescription drug plans, Advantage plans and supplemental insurance are options available through Aetna.

Prescription drug plans are stand alone plans that can be added to your Parts A and B coverage. Advantage plans offer the same coverage of traditional plans with added benefits. Supplemental plans help fill the coverage gap that may be left by Parts A and B. Aetna Medicare has to offer three prescription drug plans. All three plans provide a wide, national pharmacy network, predictable co pays, discounted coverage for the majority of Part D drugs, safeguards for unexpected changes in your prescription needs, and the savings and convenient opportunity of a mail order program.

The Rx Essentials plan offers all of these basic elements of coverage. The Rx Plus Plan offers the basics plus enhanced benefits including no deductible for generic and brand name prescription drugs and coverage. The Rx Premier plan offers all of the coverage in the Essentials and Plus plans with added benefits such as preferred generic prescription drug coverage in the gap that is unlimited. Aetna Medicare Advantage plans are designed to provide all of the coverage of traditional Medicare Parts A and B plans along with valuable added benefits. Aetna offers four types of Advantage plans.

The HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) plan gives you access to a nationwide network of doctors, predictable out of pocket costs, $0 co pays for most preventative care, and more. The PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) plan offers the benefits of an HMO with the flexibility to choose out of network providers for an additional fee.

The PFFS (Private Fee For Service) plan has no network of care providers. You are free to choose which doctors you see and which hospital you use. Also offered are Special Needs plans which allows coverage to be tailored to an individual's unique circumstance. For supplemental insurance coverage, or Medigap, Aetna Medicare offers Plans A, B and F. These plans help to cover expenses not covered by Medicare Parts A and B coverage.

Some of these costs include deductibles, coinsurance, emergency care for foreign travel, hospital or skilled nursing care beyond what is covered by a traditional plan and your first three pints of blood each year. It is important to note that not all supplemental plans are regulated by the federal and state governments to provide protection to consumers. Not all plans are available in every state.
