Medicare plans

Medicare is an insurance scheme started by the government of USA to give health insurance to people who are above the age of 65. Those people who are under this age can also get this benefit but only under special circumstances. For example, people who are suffering from serious health diseases like diabetes, cancer etc can get this benefit. The Medicare insurance plan is divided into four parts i.e. Part A, B, C and D. Each part benefits different kind of people.

• Part A: Part A of the Medicare insurance plan is also called as hospital insurance plan. This plan covers expenditures at hospital including hospital stay and nursing charges. Part A covers 100 days of expenditure, out of which first 20 days expenditure is paid in full. The remaining 80 days is paid at the rate of $133.50/day.
• Part B: This part is known as medical insurances as it deals with the expenditures due to medical services. It covers doctor and nurse fee. It also includes x-ray or any other diagnosis charges. Government had made this part mandatory for non-working people and 10% penalty is imposed if not enrolled.
• Part C: This plan is called as Medicare advantage plan. Government had made an option to buy part C plan from private insurance companies. This plan provide the benefit of both the part A and B. This plan also covers expenditure towards prescribed medicines.
• Part D: People who have enrolled for part A and part B plans are eligible for part C. This part is called as prescription drug plan. This plan covers the expenditure towards prescribed drugs. These plans are actually designed by private insurance companies and not a government regulated plan. This plan does not cover drugs related to cough and cold.

Medicare Plans to Expire. Should you change your Medicare plan?

 YOU MAY NOT HAVE A CHOICE! Some Medicare health plans will no longer be offered next year, including Tufts Medicare Preferred PPO and PFFS. In October, your plans will be sending letters about changes for next year. Be sure to open any letters from your health plan, read them and save them. Although your plan may still be available next year, a different plan may be better for you. If you wish to change your health plan, or your Part D drug plan, you may do so during the Medicare Open Enrollment period between Nov. 15 and Dec. 31.
