If you live in Utah, you have already heard of SelectHealth and Intermountain Healthcare (IHC). Hopefully the things that we are going to touch on here will not only remind you of what they are but also show you some of the things you might not have known about.

Did you know that SelectHealth is the largest health insurance provider in the state? They insure over 33% of every man, woman and child here.

Did you know that SelectHealth is the singular network provider for all IHC hospitals and facilities? That means that over 22 hospitals and over 100 facilities in Utah will only take SelectHealth insurance on an in-network basis. In basic terms, if you don't have SelectHealth at an IHC  facility, you will pay more. That doesn't mean that your doctor is only in-network for them, but you should double check.

Did you know that SelectHealth has four different types of plans? One is an HSA  plan, one is an HMO plan and the other two are similar but one has more doctors, hospitals and counties in Utah available. The HSA  is  known as the HealthSave plan, the HMO plan is known as SelectValue and the 2 others are called SelectMed and SelectCare.

Did you know that SelectHealth also administers the state run health insurance pool known as HIPUtah? HIPUtah is the guaranteed issue health insurance that the state offers to people who don't have an employer sponsored plan,  have been turned for insurance by other carriers or who have a medical condition that is uninsurable.

Did you know that SelectHealth offers short term plans? These plans are good for people who may be in between jobs who know they will have insurance through an employer withing a few months but need some insurance in the mean time.

Did you know that SelectHealth and IHC have won numerous awards not only for customer satisfaction but for healthcare innovation as well? President Obama has even used their model as one example for healthcare reform.
